The Migros Culture Percentage is actively engaged in promoting culture. It implements its own projects, reduces shortcomings, establishes networks with strong partners and with a clear award policy provides financial support in the form of financing contributions. It also promotes young artists with study prizes and competitions.
Cultural projects are not primarily intended to assist the economy, but they do add value to society. In a globalized world, questions about identity have become more pronounced. Culture can bridge gaps, link diverse cultural contexts, raise curiosity and promote understanding for what is new and unaccustomed.
Access for all
The projects of the Migros Culture Percentage are born in the delicate interplay between tradition and innovation. They have a clearly defined target audience, and thanks to their diversity they reach a broad segment of society. The central concern is to give people access to today's artistic forms of expression, as artists and as an audience.
The Federation of Migros Cooperatives is primarily involved in projects of Swiss-wide importance. The promotion of local projects is the responsibility of the regional cooperatives.
Pioneering projects
The most important showpieces of Migros' efforts to promote culture are the individual projects. The international dance festival Steps, for example, which takes place every two years. Or great music with great orchestras for great audiences: the Migros Culture Percentage Classics. Or Swiss folk music with a modern interpretation under the Musiques Suisses label.
The Migros Culture Percentage supports Swiss pop music with M4Music – Club Festival, Conference and Demotape Clinic. In Zurich, Berne and Geneva, the culture offices offer services to aspiring artists at reasonable prices.
Innovative institutions
The Migros-Museum of Contemporary Art in Zurich sets new trends far from the mainstream in an international context. L'arc (Atelier de littérature et reflexion contemporaine, or workshop for contemporary literature and thought) in Romainmôtier offers artists and agents the opportunity to develop projects and topics at colloquia and seminars.
